Black Day
On Friday 13th January Farway’s Green Team hosted a ‘Black Day’ in order to raise awareness of the consequences of not recycling. Emma Donne from Devon Resources Futures led a workshop for Class 1 in the morning, making plastic elephants, and for Class 2 in the afternoon, looking at reducing the amount of waste from our packed lunches.
The Green Team also ran activities including a rubbish hunt, quizzes and colouring. Children came into school in recycled clothing. A lot of fun was had by all and many facts learnt such as: that all methane in landfills comes from food waste: and that it takes 19 times more energy to make a can from new than to recycle one.
